About Us

Alma & Piedra was started by our two designers, Alex Galvan and Nhien La. 

They met in 2015 while working in the fashion industry. Galvan’s career has spanned the full spectrum of fashion: product design, production, marketing, and visual merchandising. La started her journey in painting and loves to explore colors, new mediums, and materials tactilely. She worked in textiles for over 20 years designing new products for customers worldwide. While both loved their work, they saw opportunities to reclaim valuable resources that were discarded due to the ephemeral nature of the fashion industry.

In 2020, they joined forces to make comfortable pieces from repurposed fabrics comprising natural fibers. They started by making a linen dress, top, and skirt, and embroidering second-hand shirts. Realizing the joy that comes with creating, Alma & Piedra was born. 

Our third founder, Avni Khatri Fein, comes to us with a love of handmade fashion and art along with a technical and program management background. Fein was instrumental in getting Alma & Piedra off the ground.

Alma & Piedra is inspired by the timelessness of nature and the traditional ways of making clothes. We pledge to make our items consciously and intentionally. We honor how handmade art is created and share our vision of beauty with you.
